NATURAL CONSEQUENCES is now available!

It's out! Natural Consequences, the exciting sequel to Good Intentions, is now available on both Amazon and on Smashwords for non-Kindle formats.

Alex Carlisle has enough to deal with even on quiet days. Living with an angel and a succubus is no easy feat. One has divine responsibilities she can’t explain, and the other tempts him toward a decadent lifestyle he’s not sure he can manage. Add to that the stresses of college and trying to hold down a job, and it’s lucky Alex can even keep his head on straight.

Yet the complications keep on coming. An amorous (and terrifying) werewolf won’t take no for an answer. Vampires from across the country want to know what happened to their allies in Seattle. To top it all off, events in the city have drawn the attention of Federal agents who know far too much about the supernatural, and they have no patience for the chaos that Alex and his friends leave in their wake.

And congratulations on your third book! I hope it sells well and makes truck-tons of money (note: this is partially for my self-benefit seeing as more money=more incentive to write books=more books=happier me :D )

  7. I ordered and recived a new kindle this week. Here's something fitting to pop its cherry.

Also regret going from a lovely 2gen kindle with 3g to a paperwhite with only wifi. No wifi at work. Ie: no lengthy bathroom brakes.

  8. Jesus wept... I'm in my office reading this before work...and my co-workers think I'm crazy enough as it is....with out this out-of-nowhere raunchy laughing in the 2nd chapter...

How do you expect people to work around me when they wonder about me all day like that?

  9. Whoohoo! But dammit, I bought it, but it still hasn't loaded to my iPhone yet! Damn the lack of wifi in the Courthouse. There is no way I'm getting any work done today once I get back to the office . . .

  10. So, just finished reading it, and the main thing I'm thinking at the moment?

Dang you Kay, where my book 3?

So yeah. For the most part, I really liked it. There were moments I had to go back and reread a paragraph or two to make sure I understood what was trying to be conveyed, and the way you had a couple of the charecters turn out wasn't my cup of tea, but all in all, quite a delicious read.

Looking forward to more stories of Alex, Lorelei, and Rachel. Keep up the good work, and good luck.

  11. I just finished it a few minutes ago. Well done! I think it exceeded the first book by quite a bit. Congratulations Elliot... now give Poor Mans Fight a little love after you rest up.

  12. I just left a review on smashwords.com. I hope Elliott finds the mild critique of Natural Consequences constructive. A quick note that I forgot to put in my review, I think I would have reacted to Alex's handling of his baggage from Good Intentions better if Alex had been slightly more proactive than reactive in regards to dealing with his issues. It seemed like through too much of Natural Consequences, Alex was letting things happen to him rather than him taking control and finding solutions to the ails that vexed him.

  14. Mr. Kay,

I would just like to say thank you for giving me many hours of enjoyment reading your novels. I looked forward to Natural Consequences quite a bit, and you didn't disappoint. While I liked Good Intentions a bit better, Natural Consequences was also excellent. You have a real gift for writing characters that feel real. Thank you so much! I look forward to future works eagerly.

  15. To all my readers: Thank you SO MUCH once more for your support. I wanted to take the moment to ask -- if you have the chance, my book(s) can ALWAYS use reviews... particularly positive ones, but I'm not telling anyone what to write! :) Reader reviews really do have an impact on how a book does. Even the simplest review is still another person's voice adding to the overall image and presentation of the book.

The other thing that truly helps a book is word of mouth -- in person and online. That's the only thing that really sells books anymore. Even Neil Gaiman himself will tell you that.

    Thank you again!

  16. Congrats! And I already got it, and finished. As usual, great writing, great characters. I can't wait to see what you'll writing in the future!

  17. Ah, the curse of good books... you can't put 'em down, and like this, they're over so soon... well, I'm gonna re-read the hell outta it (no pun intended).
Thank you for writing such wonderful books for us!

  18. Great read, thanks for the work that you've put into honing your craft. It really shows in your handling of your characters and the depth that they all seem to embody. Great read again...

  19. Yaaaay! Two months after my birthday and I get another present!
I'm looking forward to read that and I'll review it immediatly after it's done.

For now I just wanna say: Thank you for finishing it. I'm pretty sure I will love it!

  20. I rank you right up there with the best in the Urban Fantasy genre Elliot. Keep up the good work and here's to more success.

  21. Okay, I call bullshit. We did NOT learn why Wade came home early from Afghanistan. Wade is my favorite (I've got a soft spot for southern boys), so why the tease with no resolution? The only way you can make it up to us is to sit down, right now, at your computer and get working on book #3. . .

    (Please?)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh and before I get jumped on, I caught the drift Wade's backstory, I just would love to see more books, each one fleshing out the members of the gang a bit more. One book for Wade, one for Drew, one for Molly and Onyx. . . Gotta keep Elliott writing!

  23. So... i read about 20 pages but i have a serious question regarding the open relationship aspect that lorelei and alex talk about... is there sex scenes between lorelei, rachel and other men? I really wished it would attempt, a closed relationship and i'm not sure if i could read the book if such scenes play an important role. I tend to get too close to the characters, and such things bring about painful memories.

    1. Without spoiling the book: Rachel's inclinations simply aren't the same as Lorelei's, but I always viewed the double-standard between Lorelei and Alex as a temporary condition. When they first get together, Alex is very young, has never been in a relationship and expects things to follow a traditional model, and their relationship is full of overt power dynamics from the start. Book 2 opens up with him having had a little time to adjust to the realities of his life. The white picket fence just isn't in the cards for him.

At the risk of providing a spoiler, though, I do not enjoy stories about cheating, jealousy, humiliation and pain. I get very irritated when characters in fiction (and in real life) decide not to talk out their issues for the sake of creating drama. Alex and Lorelei simply aren't that sort.

Will Lorelei hook up with another guy? Inevitably, yeah. She likes sex and doesn't give a damn about the social mores and expectations of modern society. However, she does care deeply about Alex... so this is not a story about a woman running roughshod over her boyfriend.

  25. Love this series Elliott. Congrats.

One thing though - threesomes are no where near as easy to coordinate as your books seem to imply. They can be fun though so long as you can share.

    1. I have no illusions there. My actual intent was to present them as unrealistically awesome because there was either a succubus or the heavily-influenced boyfriend of a succubus involved in all the threesomes.

Like actual porn, I'm not entirely trying to present realistic sex scenes here. :)

    2. Oh I get it don't worry:] I'll say it again I love the series. I'm pushing it on my friends, well the less prudish ones at least and will ensure I mention them in any related forum. Started my own blog today as I needed the extra push to write.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work.

  27. I just finished reading Natural Consequences this morning. It was one of those books that you really can't put down until you are finished, and when you are done, you want to read even more. I do have a question regarding a short story tie-in that was published on another site- "Days of High Adventure". Jason and Alex are in the start of that story, obviously before the events in Good Intentions. At the end of High Adventure, the story returns to Jason. Am I correct in my assumption that those events happened after Natural Consequences? Will there be any future tie-ins with Amanda et al.?

  28. First and MOST importantly, wanted to say that I've really enjoyed the series. Found both at the same time and read both twice in a row. :)

I think one of things I really appreciate is the balance between Lorelei and Rachel in that Lorelei has more freedom to do whatever, where-as Rachel is stronger and knows more but is more constrained in what she can do. I think that is a nice touch. Though I am hoping that we will see more personal interaction between Alex and Rachel in the future. It seems that Lorelei and Rachel interact much more than Alex and Rachel and given their relationship is intended to be equal, just something I would enjoy seeing!

The only negative I feel is about the change in Lorelei starting to go after other men. I understand its supposed to be an equality thing but Lorelei derives power and pleasure from Alex's escapades that of course doesn't go both ways, so it doesn't feel equal to me.
Another poster already commented on this in a way, but for my own reasons I didn't enjoy reading that part and fear that more in the future could kill the series for me and I seriously enjoy it right now! And oh lord if Rachel gets into it, that would be harsh, since I can't imagine her doing that without falling in love. I would never try to get you to write anything but what you want to write, but I guess all my rambling is just to say that I hope the story works out in such a way that that aspect is minimized. :)

  29. Loved the first book. The "deal" in the early part of the second book cast a pall over the rest of the book for me and the scene near the end with Lorelei and Bridger really ruined it for me.

I understand that it's part of Lorelei's character, but her going after other men doesn't really seem to add much to the story. Alex being fine with it doesn't even seem to make sense within the scope of his own back story, given that almost all of his past lives he's been cheated on. Seeing his current incarnation be fine with other guys banging the love of his life when he has the memories of those past betrayals stretches my suspension of disbelief a little bit.

In the end, it seems like these books have very good stories and good characters, but the way Alex and Lorelei have been handled bothers me enough that it's clear that the books just aren't for me as a reader. A polyfidelity relationship between Alex, Lorelei, and Rachel, would have made me more comfortable as a reader and given their relationship more meaning. However, that's up to the author.

I hope that future books do well, whatever is decided to be done with the characters.

    1. I agree with the disbelief that stems from Alex's apparent acceptance of Lorelei having sex with other men and the deal early on in the book. He even states early on that he has been betrayed and cheated on countless times in his previous lives and all of a sudden he has acceptance at the end. Based on the development of his character, I can see intellectually he can "see" how it is ok but based on the rest of his character I cannot see how emotionally he could be regardless of "equality". I can also see that from Lorelei's nature that she would not see how that could affect the relationship as she is very emotionally stunted when it comes to human love and real relationships. If the easy acceptance of it, without consequences (for example a black self destructive rage, depression, alcohol abuse or some other negative effect or hang-up) on his relationship with her, I will be extremely disappointed in this story and characters, especially if Rachel gets more involved in those side relationships (with her declaration of love and being an "Angel" and all). Also, how Rachel says in the first book that angels know about love and knows about all the tragedy and heartbreak Alex has had throughout his lives, how she could not say something to Lorelei about it. I understand that the sex with Bridger was "needed" for her recover her strength, but based on the central character's issues that something wouldn't have been said to Lorelei to take that into consideration, especially as it doesn't matter who Lorelei has sex with (male or female) since she will get the same "strength" from that or Alex's encouraged liaisons.

On another note, I would like to see more of a focus on the relationship between Rachel and Alex. It seems the story continues to revolve around either Alex and other partners, Alex and Lorelei, Lorelei and Rachel or Lorelei and others and not between Alex and Rachel besides words. This so called "triad" does not seem to be balanced in the least and I think that takes a lot away from the "love" that is supposed to exist between the three. I understand how the relationship is open and the book embraces that (and I think that is a great aspect of the story) but it just seemed to be missing something in the story.

The rest of the plot was fantastic, especially as how I was thinking it was Vincent back for revenge rather than Donald when reading it. I am just disappointed how the story has been developed for Alex, Rachel and Lorelei's relationship. I have my fingers crossed that it does not continue down this path, because it would lessen it in my mind. And now I have to wait who knows how long to find out!!!

  30. Wanted to say thanks for a great and engrossing read. But one question bothers me and that's can we expect more in the series? It would be great to see at least two more books for Wade and Drew to be cast in the same light as Jason was. Again thanks for two great books.

    1. The straight answer is, "Probably, but it'll be a while." Currently I only have vague notions as to what should come next with this series, and my biggest priority is the sequel to Poor Man's Fight. However, I love these characters too much to leave them alone for long. Logically, there should be more of a spotlight on Drew and/or Wade next time, and there will probably be just as much of Molly & Onyx... but again, the only honest answer is that I don't have anything specific planned yet.

  31. I just got done reading Natural Consequences and I gotta say I was blown away. Its a great series. Id love more of Onyx and Molly. Great characters.

I actually read Poor Mans Fight first and I was hoping you could let me know if there will be a sequel. Oh and of coarse I want a sequel to Natural Consequences.

  32. Elliot,

I just recently became a fan after finding Good Intentions on Amazon, and I wanted to express my deepest respect for your writing. Good Intentions and Natural Consequences are quite simply two of the best novels that I've read, ever. The humor, the erotica, the action, and the extremely relatable and well-rounded characters all combine to form a story that will not simply let go. It helps that the world and the characters feel more real than other novels of the like.

I rushed through both Good Intentions and Natural Consequences in less than a day (the fastest I've gone through a book in recent memory). They're both the rare type of book that you don't want to end, and I am eagerly anticipating whatever comes next.

As a young twenty-something and aspiring author myself, I tip my hat to you. Thank you again for sharing your work with me and all your other readers.

  33. I see Lorelei as ruthless in getting what she wants. I'm not surprised that when Lorelei wants to free Alex, she does so ruthlessly. If freeing Alex requires disobeying him temporarily, so be it.

The most unconvincing paragraph in the whole book is when Alex does not feel jealousy when Lorelei wants other men.

While Alex holds back when a waitress hits on him, Lorelei is straining at the leash, looking for kicks elsewhere. While Alex refuses office sex because he already has a relationship, Rachel gets carried away with Drew when at work. I would say Alex comes out of this book very much weakened.

  34. Hey There Buddy!!
My English is not 100% so don't mind any mistakes :).

I Loved Good Intentions and had read it numerous times before Natural Consequences came out and I just wanted to tell you that you did a fantastic job with the story right up till the end where the story got completely ruined for me. You portray Alex as the Hero who had so many lives where he dies young, gets betrayed & cheated on so many times and finally when he finds true love in this life he doesn’t mind the love of his life having sex with other people? If I wanted to read a story where the guy gets off on watching his Girlfriend having sex with others there are hundreds of stories out there right? I read a story where the guy literally asks his best childhood friend "would you please F**K the love of my life?" and then goes on and films the whole thing because he liked it so much. The story had a very good rating hinting how much the readers enjoyed it. I don’t know if it’s true for everyone but I loved your story because it’s one of the few amazing stories that had everything that one could want from a story action adventure Sci-Fi etc. and most of all the Romantic aspect of it. The guy literally goes to hell for his girl not wanting to let her go. "Morgan's Genie", "It's Legal on Other Planets" & "Whoever You Want to Be" they have the similar basic concept right? That it should be ok for a girl to have multiple sexual partners. And since no one says anything to a guy if he has multiple partners therefore it should be ok for girls as well. If the thing with Lorelei was a onetime thing because it was necessary or else Alex would have literally died if she didn’t do it. But then you go on making it a permanent thing and then adding even Rachel in on the Action. Perhaps Rachel wants to try it too? See how it is or feels like perhaps with just his best friends. And since she is ok with Alex's flings then that means he should be too right? I am just saying what I felt and not at all talking about what others feel about it. Still it’s one of the best stories I have read. I am sure you will continue it and if you do with your current story line I'll have to stop right here, where the things have not turned into an orgy.

I wish you best of luck with your future stories and take care.

  35. Hi everyone!!

This question is to every fan of Elliott Kay :). I love to read but am not that experienced about where to find this quality of work over the internet. If you have read both the Good Intentions and Natural Consequences, Path of The Necromancer over at Literotica.com ( Many people including me mentioned in the comments that they were reminded of Elliot Kay's brilliant work after reading that. Unfortunately it looks like its not going to be completed anytime soon. )
The thing that I am asking all of you guys is that if you can give me some links or names and where I could find them, to some other wonderful Stories/Novels to keep myself busy? Stories with Erotic Sci-Fictional Romance? any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you all and Well Done with the sequel Elliot bravo!!
