Brief Updates

This is brief because I really want to focus on productive story-writing. However, I know there are folks out there interested in how things are going.

Writing for Rich Man's War has suffered recently from the natural interruptions of the holidays and the wholly unnatural interruption of the worst flu I've ever had in my life. Feverish for days, couldn't concentrate on anything, all that. It took me a good three weeks to shake that stuff off enough that I could actually get any writing work done. My girlfriend is fairly sure that I caught swine flu, as she caught that during the big scare in '08 or '09 or whenever and yet didn't get sick at all despite living with me through this whole deal, plus H1N1 is apparently one of the big strains this year... and whatever I had was awful. Presumably, those three details totally add up to irrefutable scientific evidence, right?

At any rate, Rich Man's War is over 60k words, and I'm taking a short moment to do some constructive editing before pushing further. The paperback versions of both Poor Man's Fight and Natural Consequences are still in the works, but they are both in stages that required me to hand them off to other people. I have also managed to get some short-story work done that may come out in the next few months depending on when cover art can happen (and I'm more than content to wait for the artist's schedule).

So that's where I'm at. I hope everyone is having a good new year so far, 'cause mine got off with a roar followed by a sudden stumble and fall into a virus-infested mud puddle. But I'm out of that puddle now and back to productivity again, so here's to February!

  1. Here's to february, good to hear from you again. I was kinda wondering what happened to the paperbacks of NC and PMF. I wish you good luck - and now stay healthy, because being sick sucks... and I wanna read that book this year xP

    1. It'll happen, but not until after I get the current book done. I'm not working up any kind of a schedule, either. Once Rich Man's War is out, I don't know if it'll be time for more of Alex & Co. or if I'll continue straight into the next book for Tanner.

    2. Another Alex and co. book if there's the possibility of a vote. Truly an amazing series that really has a great view on life, the universe and love. Could even do a Molly and Onyx series from it too now that they are part timing with the feds.

    3. It will really come down to what creative juices Elliott can get out, not really what we "vote" on. Let the author get on with it, and when the time is right, it will get done. Till then, sit back and enjoy the other books.

  8. Just got done rereading Poor Mans Fight and I had to check for updates. Love all your work and I'm glad your feeling better. So go ahead and lock the door, disconnect the phone and chain yourself to your desk with cases of redbull and cheese puffs and knock out Old Mans War.

    1. Er... I think you might have my book confused with John Scalzi's... :)

    2. HAH LOL! Oh my God I did! Rich Mans War! I meant Rich Mans War. I do Love Old Mans War and Mr. Scalzis work but that was a typo. Forgive me please. : ) While I love reading both stories yours was a step ahead of Scalzi, but that's just my opinion.

  9. Any chance of an ETA on your next Tanner book? I try to satiate my lust/thirst/hunger for your next Tanner book by reading any and all sci-fi military books I can find but they're all second rate in comparison to the masterpiece 'Poor Man's Fight'. Your book makes the Honorverse look like an amateur series in comparison.

    1. Hayden, I only wish I could give you an ETA. To be honest, I've had a couple of concerns slow me down. The opening arc is all finished, I have a very clear picture of the climax, but the middle has me chewing very hard on a few things. I can promise considerably more action and a bigger picture in this next story. I'm just working to make sure it all hangs together in a nice, narrative flow.
